A graduate of IEP, the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (IEP), the French Institute of Oriental Languages where she majored in Chinese, and of the Chinese Foreign Affairs College, Caroline Puel started her career as a French Embassy press attaché in China. In 1989, she joined Radio France Internationale (RFI) as a war correspondent and covered India, Pakistan, Yugoslavia and the first Gulf War.
In 1992, she joined the French daily, Libération, as the Asia Desk Editor. From 1993 to 1997, she was based in Hong Kong as a correspondent for Libération and Le Point, a weekly news magazine. Ms. Puel set up Le Point’s Asia desk in Beijing where she became responsible for coverage of North Korea, Mongolia, South-East Asia and launched the special editions on China. From 2003 to 2007, Ms. Puel was also the China Correspondent for Radio Suisse Romande and Radio France.
Ms. Puel is an art critic and author of more than fifteen books about Chinese contemporary artists and writers. She received the Albert Londres Prize in 1997 for her coverage of China. She teaches at IEP in Paris and is a member of the Steering Committee of the Women’s Forum Asia.
In January 2011 she published her new book " 30 years that changed China (1980-2010)"
Ms. Puel joined the PPR board in 2010.
